Skinner Street Pop In Group Celebrate 30 Years

30 years of Fun and Laughter!

Prama’s Pop-In Group at Skinner Street United Reformed Church celebrated its 30th anniversary on 11 June with an afternoon party for its members, and volunteers, some of whom have been involved with the group for the whole of its existence. A huge buffet spread was laid on and the Land Girls performed songs from earlier decades, to the delight of all who attended.
Every Tuesday from 2 to 4 pm volunteers from PramaLife, part of the Prama Foundation, offer a warm welcome to any older people who would like to meet up and make friends, socialise over a cuppa, or take part in activities such as bingo, skittles or crafts.
Jean, a member who has attended the group for 5 years, said “I started coming here after I lost my husband and I’ve made lots of friends – it’s really picked me up. I’ve met up with people I went to school with!” Gladys, 95, used to be the caretaker of the hall, watching it being prepared for the Prama group with much care and thought, and has now been a member for 10 years herself. “They go one step further to make sure it’s a good day, a good show every week”.
The volunteers, Linda, Diane, Rona and Pat each received a bouquet of flowers from Prama to thank them for their time and service over the years. Bridget Barrett, the Volunteer Manager for PramaLife Poole, said, “We are delighted to be able to celebrate some wonderful memories with our lovely clients and volunteers; we have had 30 years of fun, friendship and laughter and we are especially grateful to our committed volunteers who make such a difference to our members.”
