Prama take over Headway Home Care Services

Dorset charity, Prama takes over home care services for people with brain injury following the closure of charity Headway Dorset.

Prama’s intervention has saved twelve jobs in Dorset and provided continuity of care to local people living with acquired brain injury.

The local charity for individuals with Acquired Brain Injury, Headway Dorset, has ceased operating with the pending closure of the charity and its associated operating company.  Local care charity Prama has agreed to take over the care services currently provided by Headway Dorset, saving twelve jobs and providing continuity of care to local people living with acquired brain injury including young people and ex-forces. Headway Dorset’s domiciliary care services will be kept as a specialist provision within the Prama charity which already works with over 1,000 people a week across Dorset. Prama is not acquiring the Headway Dorset charity. Prama is an innovative charity which funds much of its work through trading activities, charity shops and traditional fundraising rather than be solely grant dependent. In addition to providing traditional domiciliary care it also runs numerous drop in clubs, with age friendly activities and support for carers and young carers groups.

Twelve jobs have been saved and these employees will transfer to Prama under TUPE regulation.  The skills and services of former Headway Dorset carers will complement Prama’s existing services and its vision of every person experiencing isolation or vulnerability to be able to make the fullest contribution to their communities.

Steve Robinson

Prama’s CEO, Steve Robinson commented; “We are delighted to have been able to take on the care services of Headway Dorset which seemed like a natural extension of Prama’s existing mission. Although this has happened under difficult circumstances for Headway Dorset we are pleased to welcome new colleagues and clients to Prama and will ensure that they benefit from joining the Prama family”.

Luke Griggs commented on behalf of Headway;

“The trustees of Headway Dorset have made the difficult decision to close down the charity with immediate effect.  “Headway Dorset was an autonomous charity affiliated to the UK-wide Headway organisation. It was governed by a Board of local trustees who have decided that, in the face of increasingly difficult financial circumstances, it is not viable to continue running the charity or its trading company, Headway Dorset Care”.

“For more than two decades, Headway Dorset provided support, care and rehabilitation services to people in Dorset living with the effects of brain injury. Through a dedicated and passionate team of staff and volunteers, the charity has helped countless families in the local community to cope with the devastating effects of brain injury and the board would like to express its thanks to everyone who has supported the charity.”
